Single Tooth Implants: The Basics

Dealing with tooth loss can make you feel a lot of different things: Embarrassment regarding the appearance of your smile, frustration with daily hygiene when food becomes stuck in open spaces, disappointment in your ability to speak articulately, and even exhaustion when it comes to attempting to chew foods successfully. While the immediate ramifications of missing teeth can be a challenge, you do not need to accept them as a fact of life. If you are a patient seeking a stable, beautiful replacement for your missing tooth or teeth, we invite you to learn more about dental implants. You may find that their benefits offer you exactly what you have been looking for to complete your smile.

About Single Implants

Implants are a bit different than other dental prosthetics, such as bridges or dentures. With dental implants, you can replace single teeth, which may include individual teeth, multiple teeth, or even all of your teeth, one by one. Unlike other options, implants prepare your mouth for a complete tooth replacement from the roots up. Familiarize yourself with the parts:

  • Dental Implants: The implant post is made of titanium and replaces your missing tooth’s roots. We will implant it surgically into your jawbone while you are under sedation. Over the course of approximately three to four months, the implant with fuse to your jawbone during “osseointegration.” Your gum tissue will also heal during this recovery period.
  • Abutment: An abutment is a piece that will sit in your implant, attaching a tooth replacement to the implant post.
  • Restoration: We may “restore” your post – or top it – with a restoration. This is another term for the visible portion of your tooth. For a single dental implant, we will use a beautiful dental crown color-matched to your surrounding smile or your preferences.
