Sedation Dentistry Can Calm Your Dental Fears

Are you feeling nervous about an upcoming dental procedure? Perhaps you have even delayed important preventive care because of a general anxiety about climbing into the dentist’s chair. You are not alone. Many patients struggle with moderate to severe dental anxiety. But you do not have to live in fear, or in avoidance of the dental care your teeth require. Sedation dentistry can help calm your fears, so that you can get the care you need, whether that is an overdue cleaning or a more extensive procedure. Remember, when it comes to the health of your smile, seeking proactive treatment is crucial. Learning about the benefits of sedation dentistry can help.

What Sedation Options Do You Offer?

We offer three primary sedative options, some of which can be combined to meet your needs and situation.

  • Nitrous Oxide: often referred to as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide not only eliminates pain during a dental procedure, it can help put patients at ease
  • Oral Sedation: this is a stronger form of sedation, one taken in pill form either immediately before the procedure or possibly the night before. Patients who utilize oral sedation will need to arrange transportation home from the office.
  • Intravenous (IV) Sedation: the strongest sedative option, IV sedation will be administered by medical professionals on our staff, who will closely monitor your vitals during your procedure.

Is Preventive Care Really Necessary?

Failing to have regular professional cleanings can lead to tartar buildup, which is a leading cause of gum disease. If caught in its earliest stage, gingivitis, or gum disease, can effectively be treated. However, the longer it goes undiagnosed, you run the risk of worsening symptoms, such as bleeding gums and eventually loose teeth. This is just one compelling reason to seek preventive care.

In almost all cases related to oral health, early detection of problems it the best way to save your teeth. So do not delay treatment, especially since sedation dentistry can help.
