The good news is that we can provide you with comfortable treatment for your snoring or sleep apnea. However, even though you can feel excited and relieved knowing you will be wearing a simple oral appliance that yields exceptional results, you may still wonder what’s going on. Is it just snoring? Something more? Do these always go hand-in-hand or not? We are happy to get you started on the essential information you need with a question-and-answer session.
Questions and Answers
Question: I always assume that snoring is coming from my partner’s nose. Is this a fact? Is it all about congestion?
Answer: Actually, it’s coming from the tissues in your partner’s throat. While congestion can make snoring worse, it’s not the only factor. Anything that causes the tissues in the throat to touch one another (from inflammation to congestion or relaxed muscles) will allow them to vibrate while air passes in and out during breathing. Vibrations equal snoring sounds.
Question: I’ve heard that if you snore loudly, that means you have a more serious disorder called sleep apnea. Is this accurate? Or can someone just be a “snorer?”
Answer: Snoring could mean that you have sleep apnea. However, it may occur on its own. Schedule a visit to learn more about your unique experience.
Question: How do I know if I actually just snore or if I’m dealing with sleep apnea? Can I just look up the symptoms online?
Answer: While it’s certainly beneficial to speak with us about this issue, you will need to speak with a medical doctor. For an accurate diagnosis of the problem, you will need to undergo something called a sleep study. Then, you will know with certainty whether it’s snoring or sleep apnea (at which point, we can treat you!).
