Do you have very small fissures in your smile that only you can see? When it seems like your tooth has a minor crack in it that’s extremely slim and small and difficult to see (but you can most certainly see it in the mirror) then you might not know what’s going on. In most cases, what you’re seeing is an esthetic issue we call a craze line. Not sure if it’s something you need to address, if it’s hazardous, or otherwise? We’re happy to fill you in with the answers!
Is A Craze Line Dangerous?
This is not a dangerous issue for your tooth or your oral health. While a true fracture or crack is a problem, this is purely esthetic. Translation: You might not like what it looks like but it is not threatening to the wellbeing of your smile.
How Do I Know What It Is For Sure?
Since it’s often difficult to diagnose cracks (and everything else) on your own, if not impossible, we encourage you to come in for a visit. We will examine your smile to determine whether we’re looking at a craze line or if you are dealing with a crack that requires restorative care.
Do I Need To Address It?
You don’t need to address this type of fracture. You only need to address cracks that are a risk for your oral health. You may choose to, however, if you wish. If the craze line is darkened, whitening may be of assistance. If you prefer to camouflage the concern, we generally suggest bonding or veneers.
