Remember when the only thing you heard during mealtime was the pleasant conversation at the table? If you’re shaking your head “no” because all you can usually hear is your very loud and clicking TMJ (jaw joint), then it might be time for some help. First, remember that we offer a variety of beneficial treatments for those dealing with TMJ disorder. In addition, consider some ways you can reduce the sounds (and the discomfort) that come with the current state of your disorder.
Cut Food First
Don’t ask your TMJs to do all of the work. When you open your mouth wide to take a bite of a sandwich or any other food, you may be aggravating your TMJs and your TMJ disorder. Instead, cut it down into bite size pieces. You’ll won’t have to open so wide, which may minimize the amount of popping and clicking (and discomfort) that’s happening.
Take Smaller Bites
Even if you’re cutting your food down, it isn’t going to do you any good if you’re shoveling the equivalent of that entire sandwich into your mouth at once. Get used to eating smaller amounts of food at a time for a while. You’ll give your jaw joints a rest.
See Us For Treatment!
You may have already seen this coming! Since we cannot speak to your specific issues with TMJ disorder or the symptoms you’re experiencing without seeing you, schedule a consultation right away! Once we examine you, we can then offer very unique and specific suggestions (and treatments) to solve your problem.
