Maybe you’ve scheduled a visit with us to learn more about your sore jaw. You know you’ll probably need some form of TMJ disorder treatment but you’re not sure what’s going on or what you will require. Until then, and until you’re feeling serious relief thanks to care from our team (such as TMJ Botox treatment), you may find that you’re dealing with inflammation and pain. Not sure how to respond in a pinch (like during a holiday meal)? Not to worry. We are ready with some helpful ideas.
Take OTC Medication
Carry over-the-counter (OTC) medication with you if you have been dealing with a sore jaw. As you are aware, it’s not a long-term solution. It is, however, going to help you get out of pain for the moment.
Find A Quiet Place
Sometimes, you think you’re relaxing. However, what you’re really doing is tensing up your muscles surrounding your TMJs. Do yourself a favor. Find a quiet place, even if you’re already at home, so you can relax. Focus on relaxing all of the muscles in your face, your jaw, your neck, your shoulders, and your back. Give yourself a few minutes, so muscles relax and discomfort can subside.
Stop The Culprit
Maybe you are eating a handful of jelly beans when you notice your jaw feels extra uncomfortable. Perhaps your sore jaw becomes worse as you’re playing an intense video game with your nieces and nephews. If you’re stressing your jaw and you happen to know what the culprit is, walk away from the problem for now! Give your sore jaw a rest. It needs it.
