When a tooth sustains an injury or develops tooth decay or infection too severe for a filling, then you could benefit from the placement of a dental crown. Our team can use CEREC technology to create and place them in one visit, and we employ lifelike materials too. In today’s blog, your Katy, TX, dentist talks about natural looking dental crowns.
When Teeth Need Repair
Our practice often prescribes dental crowns to address restorative concerns too severe for a filling or dental bonding procedure. For example, we can address major breakage, chips, and cracks in the tooth, or repair ones worn down due to untreated teeth grinding. Placement could also help misshapen teeth and off improvements for poor bite function and imbalance. Restorations also help treat advanced tooth decay or complete root canal treatment for infected or abscessed teeth. If you have minor tooth loss, one or two could secure a dental bridge, while a single one could restore an individual dental implant.
The Lifelike Materials We Use
We have a variety of lifelike materials available, which we can color-match to blend with your smile seamlessly and offer an attractive appearance, in addition to a comfortable fit and a balanced bite. We could use all-porcelain for the front teeth, as the material is strong but very lifelike, reflecting the translucent nature of tooth enamel. For the side and rear teeth, which endure greater bite forces, we could use porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns or zirconia, which are very strong but can also be shaded to blend with the smile.
CEREC Technology
Instead of requiring two or more visits to create and place your custom restoration, we can offer same-day crowns using the CEREC CAD/CAM system. To begin, our team will numb the tooth and then gently remove structure from it to make room for your new restoration. We then take pictures of the tooth from multiple angles with digital imaging systems, which we use to create a 3D impression. We design the restoration and then upload the information into the onsite milling machine, which then crafts your restoration from strong and lifelike material, which we color match to blend with your smile. We then check the fit and make any last-minute adjustments before we attach the finished product with a powerful bonding agent.
If you have any questions about how we create and place crowns same-day, or about the lifelike and durable materials we use, then contact our team today to learn more. We’re ready to restore your smile in one visit!
