When people with severe anxiety or special needs require dental care, or if you’re undergoing advanced care like dental implant placement or tooth extraction, then we want to ensure your experience is a comfortable one. With sedation dentistry, we can do just that! In today’s blog, your Katy, TX, dentist talks about our approach to sedation dentistry.
When People Need Sedation
We may recommend sedation for our patients for a number of different reasons. If you have severe dental anxiety, then your fears could prevent you from obtaining even minor treatments, such as cleaning, so your overall oral health suffers. But our team could provide a solution to ensure you feel calm and relaxed during your visit. Likewise, this could help people with special needs that make receiving care a difficult process. Finally, this could ensure the comfort of people undergoing more extensive treatments, such as tooth extraction or the placement of dental implants.
Special Needs
Our office is experienced in helping both kids and adults who have special needs that make receiving care difficult. We understand the importance of a healthy smile, and have experience in helping people who are on the spectrum or have other unique factors that impact the dental care process. We will talk to you about your family member’s needs, and will work hard to ensure your loved one feels comfortable and enjoys his or her visit to the dentist.
Our Calming Options
We have three different options available, and the one we suggest will depend on our patient’s age, weight, medical and dental history, and anxiety levels. The most common is nitrous oxide, which is inhaled through a mask over the nose. The effects wear off once the procedure ends, so you can return to work or school, or even drive yourself home. Oral and IV are a much deeper form of relaxation. Oral sedation is taken via pill or liquid prior to the procedure. IV is administered intravenously. We will have trained anesthesiologists on hand to monitor you or your family member, and the effects take time to wear off so someone will need to bring them home afterward.
If you have any questions about our calming solutions, then please contact our team today to learn more and schedule a visit for yourself or a member of your family. We’re ready to help you and your loved ones enjoy optimal oral health!
