How Do We Ensure Crowns Look Natural?

When a tooth needs to be repaired due to injury or a severe case of tooth decay, then we could offer relief in only one visit. With CEREC technology and lifelike materials, our team could place a strong dental crown. In today’s blog, your Katy, TX, dentist looks at the benefits of our lifelike and durable CEREC crowns.

Creating Restorations in One Visit

The CEREC system employs CAD/CAM technology to design, create, and place dental crowns in only one visit. To begin, our team will administer a local numbing agent to the teeth to keep them comfortable as we gently remove outer structure from them. Our team then uses a small wand to gather detailed digital images from multiple angles, which we use to create a 3D impression. This is far more accurate than a traditional physical one, so you don’t have to bite down on molds filled with gooey materials. We then use this to design the restoration and we upload the information into an onsite milling machine. The machine crafts the crown and we then check the fit and place the finished product with a powerful bonding agent.

The Materials That We Use

For the CEREC crowns, we use all-porcelain, which is a very durable and strong material. The material can be shaded to blend with your smile and offer a lifelike appearance. But we also offer materials we can use. For the side and rear teeth, which endure greater bite forces, we could use porcelain-fused-to-metal or zirconia, which we can shade to match the smile.

The Reasons for a Dental Restoration

Let’s talk about when a tooth needs to undergo a restoration. We could place them to repair cavities too severe for a dental filling, or to complete a root canal for an infected tooth. Placement could repair cracked, chipped, or broken teeth, or to add length to worn down structure too. We could use restorations to improve bite balance and ease jaw joint strain, and to also aid in tooth replacement. One to two of them can support a dental bridge. One could also restore a single tooth dental implant too. We can use them to reshape malformed teeth too!
