Dental injuries can happen when you least expect them, leaving you in pain you cannot ignore. But by having a plan on who to call, you can relieve your symptoms quickly and get back to enjoying your normal standard of comfort. While certain chips or cracks may seem solely cosmetic, any event that breaks the seal of your enamel can greatly increase your risk for infection, so please do not ignore these harms. By calling our office, we can schedule an emergency visit outside of your standard checkup schedule to help restore your tooth.
At your Katy, TX, dental practice, we’re standing by ready to help you in your time of need. If you believe your injury to be life-threatening or have bleeding you cannot control, please head to the nearest emergency room or call 911 first, otherwise call us to schedule your appointment. We will quell your pain, and put you on the path toward preserving your remaining healthy structure or creating a prosthetic replica for lost teeth.
Don’t Put Off Your Emergency Treatment!
The moment they occur, dental emergencies leave you vulnerable to infection and decay. If you chip or crack a tooth, dislodge a restoration, or knock out a tooth, we need to see you right away. These events expose tissues inside your oral cavity that are normally protected by the strength of your tooth’s enamel. As more sensitive inner dentin and open socket tissues become exposed, dangerous bacteria can enter and wreak havoc on your oral health. Take care of your pain and prevent infection by contacting our team as soon as this happens. We’re happy to serve you outside of normal business hours.
Preparing For Your Visit
When you schedule your appointment, we will provide information on actions you should take to help ease your discomfort and preserve your smile. For pain, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever or NSAID. You could also place a cold compress on the side of your face to limit your swelling. For minor bleeding issues, gauze and cloth can help you begin clotting. If any piece of your tooth is loose or dislodged, collect it by the crown, never the root, and place it in a saltwater bath or jar of milk for transportation. If the tooth completely knocks out, attempt to restore it to your socket until you are able to receive our care. Once you arrive at our office, we will heal your pain and discuss your options for restoring your damage.
