Selecting Your Level Of Dental Sedation

Smiling senior man

If you have feelings of anxiety or unease about an upcoming dental procedure, we can provide sedation to help you cope. This prevents patients from putting off or avoiding altogether beneficial treatments to improve their oral health. While many people do not look forward to dental treatment, this feeling can sometimes escalate to a concern that requires professional help. This is when sedation dentistry provides techniques and medication to put you in a more relaxed state. By reviewing your options available, you can look forward to feeling more comfortable the next time you visit the dentist.

At your Katy, TX, dental practice, we understand that your needs are unique and prioritize making you feel well during a more involved procedure. No one should have to white knuckle through pain or nervousness, and that is why we provide medication to help you feel more calm. If you have any questions about how these practices operate, please discuss your concerns with our staff, and we will provide the information necessary to help you make your treatment decision.

Work With Our Team To Select A Sedation Option

How do you select the right level of care when it comes to dental sedation? When you discuss your discomfort about an upcoming treatment with your dentist, we will take a full review of your information to help you make the decision. We discuss your medical history, weight, age, and other unique circumstances that affect the way you will experience your dental procedure. By providing sedation dentistry, we hope to make important oral care available to everyone who needs it, regardless of their anxiety about going through treatment.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a form of dental sedation otherwise known as “laughing gas.” We administer this treatment through a vented hood that you apply during your dental procedure. Continuous breathing allows you to immediately enter a relaxed state while remaining conscious. Because this gas wears off directly following the end of your appointment, you may enjoy returning directly back to work or school afterward.

Oral Sedation

We can provide sedation in the form of a calming pill you take before your appointment. This offers a deeper level of relaxation than nitrous oxide while remaining conscious. We ask that you avoid driving to or from your appointment and arrange alternative transportation when using this method.

Intravenous Sedation

The highest level of sedation available at Lathrop Dental Center is administered intravenously. This is rather helpful for more advanced procedures such as dental implantation. Because intravenous sedation leaves you with no memory of the procedure itself, it is highly valuable for people with extreme levels of dental anxiety. We again ask that you arrange alternative transportation to and from treatment when selecting this option.
