When you think about an upcoming dental procedure, does it leave you with feelings of anxiousness? Nervous thoughts about the dentist are an unfortunate, but somewhat common aspect about receiving treatment for your oral health. Because this issue can cause some patients to delay care or outright avoid visiting the dentist altogether, we offer dental sedation medications to help you feel more at ease when in our chair. By discussing your feelings with our staff, we can review your medical history to help you determine which sedation method would be most beneficial. This could include laughing gas, a calming pill, or more advanced forms of sedation therapy. Being proactive about taking on your anxiety can help us stay on schedule with critically needed care. This prevents the need for more advanced procedures at a later time if we are unable to perform a treatment due to feelings of nervousness. We put your comfort first at Lathrop Dental Center!
At your Katy, TX, dental office, we understand that the way you experience dental visits is subjective. Certain procedures that do not phase others can make you feel ill. We want to ensure that every member of our community has access to the care they need without worry of feeling poor during treatment. In today’s blog, we will discuss the different methods we provide to enhance your comfort during treatment.
Work With Your Dentist To Select A Dental Sedation Method
How do you know which form of sedation dentistry is appropriate for you? By consulting with your dentist, we can help determine which medication would best serve your needs during your upcoming procedure. We will outline each option and ask a series of qualifying questions. This may include your medical history, age, weight, or other issues that can affect how you experience sedation.
Nitrous Oxide
You can receive nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas” as a milder form of dental sedation. This method relies upon the aid of a dental hood through which you breathe the gas during your appointment. After breathing in nitrous oxide, its effects are felt immediately, allowing you to enter a more relaxed state. You will still be alert and able to interact freely but feel at ease while we perform your dental work. Because nitrous oxide wears off immediately following treatment, you may drive yourself to and from your appointment. Return to work or school if you wish!
Oral Sedation
We also offer oral sedation in the form of a calming pill you can take before your dental appointment. Because this method does not coincide directly with the length of your procedure, we ask that you arrange transportation to and from our office. Oral sedation allows you to remain conscious while receiving a deeper level of sedation than nitrous oxide.
