Bonding – The dentist will adhere a tooth-colored material – called composite resin- to your tooth and then shave it down to fit in with your smile. For people whose teeth don’t respond to whitening treatment, this is a great solution. This can also help repair broken or gapped teeth and can act as a supportive function. This will last around five to ten years.
Contouring– During this procedure, the dentist will use a tool to shave down your teeth to the desired size or shape. If you are unhappy with jagged teeth, minor chips, or pointed teeth, this is a great cosmetic solution for you.
What To Expect During This Procedure
You can decide whether you want both services OR just one. Before we begin, the dentist will talk to you about your desired results. For the bonding process, they will pick a composite resin the same color as your tooth. No one will know it’s not your real tooth! Your teeth will be cleaned and prepped, the resin will be placed, and then we will cure it with a light that secures the material.
Before the contouring starts, we’ll discuss your needs and examine your teeth and gumline to ensure that you are a good candidate for this cosmetic solution. After prepping the tooth, the dentist will use a special tool to shave down the parts of the tooth. Sedation is not typically used during this procedure because of how minimally invasive is. Afterward, you don’t have to worry about waiting to eat or drink.
Enjoy A Less Invasive Procedure & A New Smile
If you’ve been wanting a cosmetic solution to your smile, like veneers, but don’t like the permanence of it, this is a good solution for you. Unlike veneers, we don’t have to shave down a large portion of the tooth to place composite resin during the contour process. Bonding is also a reversible process since the restoration is only on the surface of the tooth and can be removed. While contouring is not reversible, the process of shaving down the tooth is much less extreme and does not require sedation.
