Does it feel like ages since you proudly showed off your pearly whites? Do you find yourself doing anything to avoid showing your teeth? Teeth issues are no reason to feel down, especially considering how cosmetic dentistry can help. Dental bonding and contouring are two quick and affordable ways to address a number of cosmetic concerns, from chips in your teeth to gaps between them. They can often be performed in a single office visit, without anesthesia, and can leave you feeling excited to share your natural-looking, but more beautiful smile.
What Is Dental Contouring?
Dental contouring is when a dentist carefully sculpts away some of your teeth’s enamel, to create more uniformly shaped teeth. If you have some teeth that appear too large, or have jagged edges, contouring can be used to make them more proportional and smooth. Though contouring is primarily used as a cosmetic procedure, it can also be used to eliminate minor overlapping of teeth, which can drastically improve your ability to properly clean between your teeth.
What Is Dental Bonding?
Like contouring, dental bonding involves carefully sculpting your teeth into better shape. But bonding uses a composite resin material to increase the size of disproportionally small teeth, or to fill gaps between the teeth. The material will be adhered to your natural teeth, and then carefully sculpted into shape based on your personalized cosmetic goals. Once properly shaped, the resin is then polished so that it matches your other teeth’s natural sheen, creating a very lifelike smile.
The material used for dental bonding is strong, but does require thoughtful care. For instance, you will need to use a non-abrasive toothpaste, to prevent scratching the bonding. You should also limit staining foods and drinks contact with the bonding.
